What should I wear?

The most comfortable clothing for yoga practice are shorts and a close fitting t-shirt or singlet/tank top. Loose or baggy clothing interferes with your movements and your and your teacher's ability to see your body and movements. Please arrive showered and unscented, that is, no perfumes or deodorants.

We have a shower for your use. There is soap and shampoo in the shower, all you need it a towel!

When to arrive?

We recommend you arrive 10 minutes before your class. This will allow you sufficient time to change, go to the toilet and be on your mat for a prompt start.

Teacher Training Courses

Can I get insurance?

Once you are awarded your Knoff Yoga Teaching Certificate, you may apply to join the Knoff Yoga Association Inc. For less than $2 a week Plan A membership allows Australian resident teachers to obtain discounted Combined Public/Products Liability & Professional Indemnity Insurance through OAMPS. See Knoff Yoga Association page. The joining fee for the Association is $100 and the yearly renewal fee is $55.

Can I teach yoga after the course?

Yes, our Courses are designed to make you a competent yoga teacher with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in teaching public or private classes. When you successfully complete your Course, you will be awarded with the appropriate level Teaching Certificate and you may apply for the following:-

Register to become a Knoff Yoga System Teacher.  For less than $2 a week Plan B membership of the Knoff Yoga Association assists you to be up and running as a yoga teacher with all the Knoff Yoga copyright teaching materials, forms, use of logo for advertising and ongoing support via our Member sign-in (currently under development).  Insurance is also available for Australian resident teachers through our Plan A membership.

Register with the Yoga Alliance 200 Hour (Discovery & Foundation Level courses) or the Yoga Alliance 500 Hour (Discovery, Foundation, Chair, Pregnancy, Yoga Therapy A & B and Intermediate Level courses).

For further information about the Yoga Alliance, visit their website www.yogaalliance.org

Can I work during the course?

It is possible and students have done it, but we do not recommend that you work during any of the Teacher Training Courses. The training is intense and demands your full attention and energy. Many students find the Courses challenging enough and need the spare time to assimilate the teaching, complete assignments and study for tests.

Do I have the weekends off?

In order to fit in with the requirements of the Yoga Alliance registration R.Y.T. 200 and certification, the Foundation Level Course runs from Sunday to Friday, no Teacher Training Class on Saturday. It is mandatory to attend all classes if you wish to receive your teaching certificate.

The higher levels (Intermediate, Advanced, Master) run from Monday to Friday, so you do have the weekends off.

Please keep in mind these Courses are intensives and you need to be conservative with your energy to ensure you make it through and successfully pass the Course.

Do I have to be fluent in English?

We have had students attend the Courses from all over the world and often the Course is like a mini United Nations. It is not essential that you are fluent in English, but you should have a basic understanding.

Do I need a first aid certificate?

A first aid certificate is not compulsory in order to attend or be a certificated Knoff Yoga Teacher Training, but it is highly recommended.

How long is my Teaching Certificate valid for?

Foundation Level - 3 years
All higher Levels - 5 years

More Questions?

What is the weather like in Cairns?

Cairns has a subtropical climate.
See: http://www.cairns-australia.com/101933.php for full details.

What must I do to renew my certificate?

You can come to the Knoff Yoga School in Cairns or attend a workshop which Nicky is teaching in your area or send in photos or a video of you practicing the asanas for the level you are renewing, together with a renewal fee of $100. You will received a new Teaching Certificate.

What should I bring?

Cairns is a very relaxed, subtropical environment. If you are attending a Teacher Training Course in our Southern Hemisphere winter, you will need a sweater and long trousers for early morning and evenings. A light raincoat is also a good idea. During our Southern Hemisphere summer it can be hot and humid. You will most likely want to wear shorts and a t-shirt or singlet/tank top. Again a light raincoat is a good ida. Be sure to bring a bathing suit.

What sort of Visa will I need for Australia?

You can arrange for a 3 month tourist visa on-line. Visit www.immigov.au for more information.

What type of accommodation is available in Cairns?

Cairns is a vibrant tourist town and offers a wide selection of accommodation - everything from backpackers to 5 star hotels. However, most students opt for shared accommodation, a room in a local yoga student's house, which is normally within walking or bicycling distance from the Knoff Yoga School. ($AUD $120 to $150 per week).

Once students pay their deposit for teacher training they are sent an information pack which includes the Accommodation List.

Please note, we do not collect any commission or payment for accommodation. We simply put you in contact with local people who are happy to rent a room to a well behaved yoga student. We encourage you to negotiate the rent and initially only pay one week in advance - just in case you are not happy and wish to move elsewhere.
