"There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness." Carl Jung

How much are the classes?

We offer the lowest prices yoga classes in Cairns. For example, if you join our Gold Program at $99 per month and attend 3 classes per week, the individual class fee is approximately $8.25 - almost half the cost of other yoga schools.

If the Gold Program does not suit you, our Silver or Bronze Programs are available and the individual class fee is approximately $9.08 (Silver) or $14.75 (Bronze).

See the 'Public Classes' page for more details.

How do I go about joining classes?

Phone Program Director, James Bryan on (07) 4058 0955 to discuss your needs. If you are new to yoga we recommend our 'Introduction to Yoga Program'. If you are an experienced student but new to Knoff Yoga, the Program Director will help to place you.

What if I arrive late for class?

If you are running late for class please know that you are still welcome to join in. However, we ask that you come in and get changed, but wait at the back of the class for the teacher to give you permission to join.

What should I wear?

The most comfortable clothing for yoga practice is shorts and a close fitting t-shirt or singlet/tank top. Loose or baggy clothing interferes with your movements and your and your teacher's ability to see your body and movements.

Please arrive showered and unscented, that is, no perfumes or deodorants. We have a shower for your use!

Am I allowed in class if I have been drinking alcohol?

Please do not come to class if you have been drinking alcohol. Alcohol and yoga are not a good mix!

How do I make a booking for a Private class or a Yoga Therapy class?

Please phone Program Director, James Bryan on (07) 4058 0955 or Mobile 0415 362 534 to make an appointment. Once your appointment has been made, please download and complete the Interview form. Please be sure to read the information on the Private Classes/Yoga Therapy page for conditions.

Does the Knoff Yoga School close for holidays?

TEACHER TRAINING

What type of accommodation is available in Cairns?

Cairns is a vibrant tourist town and offers a wide selection of accommodation - everything from backpackers to 5 star hotels. However, most students opt for shared accommodation,a room in a local yoga student's house, which is normally within walking or bicycling distance from the Knoff Yoga School. ($AUD $100 to $140 per week).

Once students pay their deposit for teacher training they are sent an information pack which includes the Accommodation List.

Please note, we do not collect any commission or payment for accommodation. We simply put you in contact with local people who are happy to rent a room to a well behaved yoga student. We encourage you to negotiate the rent and initially only pay one week in advance - just in case you are not happy and wish to move elsewhere.

Do I have the weekends off?

In order to fit in with the requirements of the Yoga Alliance registration R.Y.T. 200 and certification, the Foundation Level Course runs from Sunday to Friday, no Teacher Training Class on Saturday. It is mandatory to attend all classes if you wish to receive your teaching certificate.

The higher levels (Intermediate, Advanced, Master) run from Monday to Friday, so you do have the weekends off.

Please keep in mind these Courses are intensives and you need to be conservative with your energy to ensure you make it through and successfully pass the Couse.

Can I teach yoga after the course?

Yes, our Courses are designed to make you a competent yoga teacher with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in teaching public or private classes. When you successfully complete your Course, you will be awarded with the appropriate level Teaching Certificate and you may apply for registration with either the Yoga Alliance 200 Hour (Foundation), the Yoga Teacher's Association of Australia 320 Hour (Intermediate - 12 month mentorship program required), or the Yoga Alliance 500 Hour (Advanced).

What should I bring?

Cairs is a very relaxed, subtropical environment. If you are attending a Teacher Training Course in our Southern Hemisphere winter, you will need a sweater and long trousers for early morning and evenings. A light raincoat is also a good idea. During our Southern Hemisphere summer it can be hot and humid. You will most likely want to wear shorts and a t-shirt or singlet/tank top. Again a light raincoat is a good ida. Be sure to bring a bathing suit.

Can I work during the course?

It is possible and students have done it, but we do not recommend that you work during any of the Teacher Training Courses. The training is intense and demands your full attention and energy. Many students find the Courses challenging enough and need the spare time to assimilate the teaching, complete assignments and study for tests.

What sort of Visa will I need for Australia?

You can arrange for a 3 month tourist visa on-line. Visit www.immigov.au for more information.
