In Martial Arts, the various techniques are practiced slowly, carefully and with a strong focus on correct application BEFORE they are used at high speed and full power.
The purpose being to understand what you are doing at a visceral level, plus you are much less likely hurt to yourself or others.
In Knoff Yoga, the normal practice is done at the speed of the breath, with the breath being Ujjayi Pranayama.
Ujjayi consists of a 5 second inhalation, 1 second pause, 5 second exhalation, 1 second pause. The majority of postures are held for 1 minute or 5 Ujjayi breaths (5 + 1 + 5 + 1 = 12).
Before you can gain the full benefits of yoga practice – at the speed of the breath, it is imperative to slow down and pull apart the techniques and put them back together again, so they are known from the inside-out.
Workshops are the opportunity to slow things down, look at specific techniques in detail, and answer students’ many questions.
Workshops can be of varying lengths from 2 hours to 2 days. Workshops can be on any day(s) of the week. Usually they are held on weekends because that is when most people have time off work.
Workshops can be general (e.g. How to Create a Balanced Practice) or can focus on a specific topic (e.g. Inversions).
Nicky Knoff goes where she is invited by a host, normally a yoga school, because they have an existing student base and a marketing network to attract others.
To host a Workshop with Nicky Knoff you need to be able to gather a minimum of 12 students. Nicky has taught classes of up to 200 people at Yoga Expos.
We will work with the host to design a Workshop to address the needs of their students.
If you would like to host Nicky Knoff for a Workshop please email james@knoffyoga.com.

YOGA PRIVATES
PRIVATE YOGA CLASSES
When Yoga is practiced appropriately on a regular basis it can enable a pathway towards healing, improved physical and mental health and overall wellbeing. As a result, this has a positive impact on our relationships, work, clarity and peace of mind – allowing us to truly live life well.
PRIVATE, PERSONALISED AND EFFECTIVE YOGA
Yoga was traditionally taught one-on-one with yogic masters passing down their wisdom to students in a way that was meaningful to each individual. Today, private yoga classes are still the best way to learn. Here’s why:
- Receive personalised instruction to ensure you’re working at the right level
- Your teacher will design the class to meet your unique needs
- Address specific issues such as pain or injury
- Focus on the things that matter most to you
- Explore new aspects of yoga such as pranayama, meditation, yoga philosophy and more
- Learn correct and precise techniques that will benefit you for a lifetime
- Be inspired and motivated
It does not matter what your level of yoga is or how flexible you are as the session is tailored to your needs.
THINGS TO KNOW
Who teaches the private yoga classes?
Both Nicky Knoff and James Bryan are available.
When to arrive?
We recommend that you arrive 10-minutes before your appointed time. This will allow you sufficient time to change your clothing, go to the toilet and complete your health questionnaire.
What if I need to cancel or change my appointment?
Out of consideration for all our students, a minimum of 12-hours notice is required to cancel or reschedule. Cancellation or time change within this time will result in a 100% fee being charged. ‘No Show’ appointments are also charged at full price.
What to wear?
Wear shorts or tights and a close-fitting tee shirt or singlet. Loose or baggy clothing interferes with your teacher’s ability to see your body and its movements. Jewellery and valuables should not be brought to the session.
Please arrive showered and unscented, that is, no perfumes or deodorants.
What to bring?
Please bring a camera as your teacher will take photos of the individual postures and breathing exercises designed for you. These photos provide the basis of your on-going home practice and thus speed up your healing.
What if I am late for my appointment?
Arriving late will unfortunately limit the time allocated for your session; it will lessen the effectiveness and input from your teacher. As a courtesy to all our students all sessions are completed as scheduled.
Keep a Yoga Journal
On the days you practice your new yoga program write down how long you practiced, a brief description of what you did, and how you felt as a result. On the days you don’t practice, write down why? A journal can provide you with useful information and is, in itself a tool for mindfulness and self-study.

“Dear Nicky and James,
So great to see you (via Skype)! Thank you for the superb lesson. The fine alignment cues really helped me to find stability like never before in a few poses and more opening in others. To be the pose, as you said. I have homework ?. I am grateful for your advice for my knee pain, how to approach certain asana and how to heal it. Thank you!!”
